In response to a question to choose between Messi and Ronaldo, Lampard said: “I will go in this matter to choose Messi.”
“With pure natural talent, no one beats Messi in this matter, but what Ronaldo did was very amazing and his career was really historic,” he added in statements reported by the global goal.
Lampard also chose the line-up for his dream team, which consisted
of former opponents he had played against while he was a player.
The perfect squad for Lampard’s former opponents included seven players, including two of his former England teammates, Rio Ferdinand and Stephen Gerrard, as well as German Manuel Neuer, Brazilian Ronaldinho, French Zinedine Zidane, Argentine Messi and Portuguese Ronaldo.
The duo, Ronaldo and Messi, dominated football in the last 15 years, and monopolized the Ballon d’Or award, which is given to the best player in the world, as Messi won it six times (a record), while Ronaldo won it five times.
Despite having crossed the threshold of thirty, the rivalry between Messi, 33, and Ronaldo, 36, may continue for one or two more seasons.
It is noteworthy that Lampard, witnessed many football legends during his long career that spanned for about 21 years (from 1995 to 2016) with Chelsea, then Manchester City, and finally New York City.
