Right Now Times : The detention has been extended for three months under the Public Safety Act (PSA) of Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the chairman of PDP.
His detention was scheduled to end on August 5, but the administration decided to increase his detention before that.
Right Now Times : On Friday, Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, issued an order to increase her detention.
The Mufti was detained on August 5 last year (2019) when the Central Government of India decided to abolish the special status accorded to the state of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and the state was governed by two Union territories. The territories were divided into Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Right Now Times : On February 6, 2020, another former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also imposed PSA along with him.
Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah were released in March but the detention of Mehbooba Mufti was maintained.
Right Now Times : Under the PSA, his life is extended every three months or else the detained person has to be released.
On May 6, it was decided to extend Mehbooba Mufti’s detention under the PSA for another three months.
