The head of the Egyptian Irrigation Authority, Eng. Abdel Latif Khaled, said that the water year starts from the end of July and the beginning of August every year, revealing that this year’s flood is “very promising.”
He added in a television interview that the flooding varies from year to year, as it may be low, medium or very dangerous.
Khaled indicated that the Higher Committee for the Revenue of the River meets a month before the flood, to monitor the waters that reach the High Dam.
He talked about the importance of the High Dam, describing it as the “protector of Egypt,” and said: “Without it, Egypt would have been exposed to floods, as the necessary water is drained behind the dam to wash the river and get rid of ammonia and pollution.”
Regarding the advantages of the national project for “lining canals”, he stressed that the advantages of lining are fair distribution, saving maintenance costs that reach one billion Egyptian pounds annually, as well as saving water.
