A Turkish court sentences an employee of the US consulate to 5 years in prison

Istanbul court has sentenced a US consulate employee to prison for aiding the network, which Ankara accuses of attempting a 2016 coup.

Nazmi Meti Canturk, the Turkish security officer at the US Consulate in Istanbul, was sentenced to five years and two months in prison. However, the court did not arrest Ganturk, which means that he will be free to await an appeal.

On June 26, a Turkish court sentenced 121 people to life imprisonment for their participation in the attempt to overthrow President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the summer of 2016.

Turkish Justice Minister Abdul Hamid Gul said that 15 trials related to the coup are continuing, out of 289 trials, as part of the largest judicial process in Turkey’s modern history.
